We are a couple who were brought together by our love of Horticulture! My father, a Horticulturist, raised my sister and I in the industry and my parent's always had a lovely garden to enjoy, and entertain within. My wife's Mother owned a landscaping company, and we were brought together when my now wife was then in school as a student of my father's...we met and fell in love...and the rest is history :)
Shortly after Hurricane Katrina flattened the Mississippi and Louisiana coasts, we began looking for a property on which to raise our family (at the time un-started), and due to the recent disaster, found that property prices were too high for us to afford any decent tract of land. Upon hearing of our search, my wife's Grandmother and Grandfather offered to give us a piece of land that they had inherited from my wife's Grandmother's father. We gladly accepted their generous offer and set to turn the property into our own!
Now nearly 10 years later, we have yet to build our dream house (due to financial limitations and dream expectations), but we have begun to develop the land in preparation for that day.
The first thing we did was to build a workshop that would serve as a storage/transition building for when we start to build...that storage building has since become a workshop for our hobbies.
Next, we started planting our fruit orchard. Our orchard consists of grape vines, apple, pear, and mayhaw trees, blueberries, and figs. It has been about 6 years since we planted our fruit trees and they all started producing this year for the first time!
After the orchard, we started our house....well...Ok, we got dirt for a house pad thinking we were ready to build, and then decided to wait after I changed jobs. That was two years ago now, and we are ready to start on that mission later this year (I hope!).
Stay tuned for this year's adventures!
